How to reach support for an active hire
For the fastest help, email hire@coastlinehire.co.za with your name, site or event address, and the equipment you have on hire. If you are calling about generators, compactors, pumps, scaffolding or party equipment, please have the hire reference ready so we can check the booking quickly.
We assist customers from Beacon Bay, Gonubie, Kidds Beach, Qonce, Port Alfred and wider East London. If your job is on a coastal site, mention it clearly, as salt air, sand and wet ground can change the way equipment needs to be handled.
What to include when you ask for help
Short messages are fine, but the right details save time. If you need urgent changes, send the key facts in one go so the team can respond without going back and forth.
- Your name and mobile number
- Hire date and, if available, the reference number
- Site, venue or delivery address
- The item needing attention, for example a generator that will not start or a pump that has lost pressure
- What changed, such as extra guests, a delayed pour, power outage, or a collection time shift
If you are unsure of the exact issue, describe what the equipment is doing, not doing, or what it sounds like. That helps us narrow it down sooner.
Urgent changes, after-hours issues and load-shedding cover
Some jobs cannot wait until the next working day. If load-shedding affects your site, a pump stops working, or an event needs a faster change, contact support right away and mark it as urgent. We will look at the best option, which may be a collection change, on-site setup support, or an equipment swap where available.
For generator hires, tell us the size of the load, whether the unit is used for lights, tools or refrigeration, and how long you need backup power. A generator that is undersized can cause trouble very quickly, especially on a busy site or during an event where sound and fuel use matter.
- Call or email as soon as the issue starts
- Keep the unit safe and switched off if it is overheating or smoking
- Do not move scaffold or powered equipment without advice
- For coastal wet weather, cover exposed connections and keep units off soft ground if possible
Collections, delivery and on-site setup help
If you need collection, please confirm whether the equipment is ready for pickup, cleaned down and accessible. For larger items such as scaffold sections, compactors and generators, make sure the route to the loading point is clear and there is space for the vehicle to get in and out. Small delays often come from blocked access, so a quick site check helps a lot.
We can also assist with on-site setup, event layout help and scaffold planning. For builders, that may mean positioning equipment for safe use and easier refuelling. For events, it may mean placing power and party equipment where the flow of people, cables and access points makes sense. An early call can save a few headaches later, especially when weather changes or the venue rules are stricter than expected.
Fuel, maintenance and equipment condition checks
Fuel management is part of good hire practice, particularly on longer jobs and coastal sites. If you are running a generator for a full day or over a weekend, ask about fuel needs before the power supply runs low. It is also worth checking whether your item needs a daily visual inspection, a top-up, or a service check before the next shift.
If a machine is showing signs of wear, unusual vibration, low pressure or poor output, tell support as soon as possible. A small issue handled early is usually quicker to sort out than a complete stoppage. Our workshop team can advise on the next step and whether the unit should stay in service or come back for inspection.
What happens after you contact us
Once your message comes in, the team reviews the hire details and the urgency of the request. Depending on the situation, we may confirm instructions, arrange a collection, organise a replacement, or talk through a safe workaround until the equipment is checked. If your request relates to an event, Megan and the team will consider the layout, timing and guest flow before confirming the next move.
For site jobs, we keep the response practical and clear. You will be told what can happen immediately, what needs workshop attention, and whether a pre-hire briefing or scaffold planning update is needed before the next day on site. Our aim is to keep the hire moving with as little interruption as possible, without guessing at the fix.
If you are in East London or nearby and need help now, send the details through. We will take it from there and make sure the right person looks at it.
