What our on-site setup includes
On-site setup is the hands-on part of the hire where our team positions the equipment, checks the basics, and shows the person on site how to use it safely. It is most useful when the equipment must start working right away, or when the site has tight access, uneven ground, power limits or weather exposure. In East London and nearby areas, that often means planning around sand, slope, traffic access and load-shedding all in one job.
We handle basic positioning and handover for generators, compactors, pumps, scaffolding components and party equipment. For bigger jobs, setup can include a short site walk-through so the equipment is placed where it can be reached, monitored and kept in working condition. If the hire is for an event, we can also help with layout decisions so service points, walkways and guest areas make sense.
- Positioning equipment on level, suitable ground where possible
- Basic start-up handover and operating notes
- Fuel checks for generator and pump hire
- Placement advice for airflow, access and safe clearances
- Scaffold planning support for small to medium access jobs
- Event layout help for tents, lights, tables and service items
We do not replace a trained operator or supervisor when one is needed, but we make sure the equipment is handed over in a way that gives the customer a proper start, not a guess.
How the setup process works on site
Once the hire has been confirmed, we ask for the site address, access instructions, contact person and a short note on what the equipment must do. That could be water transfer, compaction, temporary power, access scaffolding or event support. We then plan the delivery and setup around the area, the working hours and the equipment type.
When our team arrives, the equipment is offloaded and checked before placement. We look at ground condition, slope, overhead obstructions, entry points and where the equipment will be used. If a generator is going into a coastal area like Gonubie or Kidds Beach, we also keep airflow and corrosion exposure in mind. Salt air can be hard on machines, so correct position matters.
- Step 1: Confirm site access and contact details
- Step 2: Deliver the hired equipment to the property or site
- Step 3: Check the working area and choose a safe position
- Step 4: Complete basic setup and handover notes
- Step 5: Explain daily checks, start-up and shut-down steps
- Step 6: Arrange follow-up, collection or maintenance if needed
If there is any concern about fitment, load, space or safety, we discuss it before the equipment is put into service. That saves time later and avoids damage to floors, paving, slabs or soft ground.
Equipment types we commonly set up
Our on-site setup service is available for the hire items customers use most often on coastal building sites and at events. Generators need the right position, pumps need a good suction and discharge route, compactors need proper working ground, and scaffolding needs correct access planning. Party equipment also benefits from tidy layout and clear handover, especially when the event team is working to a tight programme.
For generators, we help with level placement, ventilation, cable run direction and basic fuel handling. For pumps, we check inlet and outlet placement and make sure the hose route will not pinch or kink. For compactors, we confirm the surface and working area. For scaffolding, we work with the site contact on position, access and practical sequence so the materials arrive in a workable order.
- Portable and site generators for backup or temporary power
- Compaction equipment for ground prep and paving work
- Water pumps for drainage, transfer and dewatering tasks
- Scaffolding components for maintenance and access jobs
- Party hire items for private functions and outdoor events
On the event side, our team can assist with the first placement of marquees, tables, chairs, lights and other hired items, then confirm the final layout against the available space. That help is especially useful on uneven ground or where the venue rules are strict.
Turnaround times and what affects the schedule
Turnaround depends on the equipment, the site distance and the time of day. In and around Beacon Bay, East London and Gonubie, simple setup jobs can often be completed on the same day as delivery if the route and access are clear. More involved jobs, or those going to Qonce or Port Alfred, may need a booked slot so the team can allow enough time for offload and handover.
Weather can change the timing, especially along the coast where wind and rain move quickly. We keep an eye on conditions for outdoor events and on sites with exposed access points. If a pump, scaffold section or generator needs a different position because of wet ground or wind, we adjust before the handover is signed off. It is better to spend an extra 10 minutes at the start than to fight a problem all day.
For urgent work, we do our best to assist with emergency callout where available, but we still need safe access and enough time for the equipment to be set correctly. If your job starts early, say so upfront and we will help plan the order of work.
Pricing approach for setup and handover
We price on-site setup according to the item being hired, the travel area, the amount of labour needed and whether the job needs extra planning. A small generator handover is not charged the same way as scaffold planning or a full event layout visit. If setup is bundled with delivery, collection, fuel management or weekend hire, we quote as one job so the customer knows where the cost sits.
We keep pricing practical and easy to understand. If the site is straightforward, the setup charge stays straightforward too. If there is difficult access, after-hours timing, long carry distances or more than one equipment type to place, we explain that before the hire is finalised. No one likes a surprise invoice, especially on a build where every rand is already spoken for.
- Fixed setup fees for simple handover jobs where suitable
- Site-based pricing for larger or more complex placements
- Extra labour only where the job needs more than standard time
- Combined quotes available for delivery, setup and collection
For repeat customers and longer hires, we can look at a more practical arrangement based on the frequency of use and the amount of support needed.
Maintenance checks after setup and during hire
Correct setup is only part of the job. The equipment still needs routine checks during the hire period, especially in coastal conditions where moisture, dust and salt can shorten service intervals. We show customers what to look for, and we can arrange maintenance visits where the hire calls for it.
Generators should be checked for fuel level, oil condition, cable damage and air movement around the set. Pumps need hose checks, suction filter checks and leak checks. Compactors should be inspected for loose fasteners, plate wear and fuel condition. Scaffolding must stay secure and clear of unauthorised movement. Event equipment should be checked daily for wear, placement and weather impact.
- Daily visual check for leaks, damage and loose fittings
- Fuel and oil checks on plant and generator equipment
- Weekly service visits for longer hires where agreed
- Immediate callout for breakdowns or unsafe operating conditions
On coastal projects, we often recommend a shorter maintenance interval than inland work. The air off the sea can be hard on fittings and electrics, so regular attention helps the hire stay dependable through the full period.
Local coverage from Beacon Bay to Port Alfred
We operate from Beacon Bay, East London, and support sites and events across East London, Beacon Bay, Gonubie, Kidds Beach, Qonce and Port Alfred. That local reach matters when an item must be turned around quickly or when the site team needs the equipment in place before the next shift starts.
Whether it is a builder needing a generator set properly before load-shedding kicks in, or an event organiser needing the layout sorted before guests arrive, we give practical help that matches the job. If you need on-site setup, tell us what the equipment is, where it is going and what time it must be ready. We will work from there and keep the process clear.
